The Ketogenic diet is a high fat, moderate protein and low carbohydrate diet which has become very popular recently but has also had a lot of mixed reviews and dietary specialists comment on the downsides and side effects to be cautious of.
Jillian Michaels, a personal trainer, business woman, author and TV personality has openly spoken her views on the diet, saying that the foods that you will have to cut out from adopting it are all important for a healthy lifestyle.
After she viewed her opinion on the diet, she received backlash from Al Roker, the weatherman from Today, who lost 40lbs using the Keto diet. He tweeted, “So @JillianMichaels says #Keto is a bad idea. This is from a woman who promoted on camera bullying, deprivation, manipulation and more weekly in the name of weight loss. Now those sound like bad ideas.”
Although the diet is known for helping or sometimes even reversing health issues such as epilepsy and diabetes, Michaels explains that there are other diets that can help these diseases without the downsides of Keto.
“People can criticise me all they want, but the bottom line is, it’s science and the science is there – and (Keto) is bad for your overall health and wellness.”
Most diets have their set backs, from mood swings to tiredness and headaches to bad breath, and it really depends on what works best for your lifestyle and your body. It is also key to remember that diets might work for a couple of weeks but if you don’t sustain them then the weight you lose can easily be replaced.
